文革末期，肉联厂青年职工康伟业（濮存昕 饰）经人介绍，认识了武汉军区某高干女儿段莉娜（吕丽萍 饰）。经过一段时间的交往，两人发生了一次毫无预兆的性关系。在那个保守的年代，摆在康伟业面前的路似乎只有一条。被逼无奈之下，他与段莉娜结婚，虽然凭借岳父的力量当上了物资局的科长，但是并没有什么感情基础的婚姻终究令康伟业心灰意冷。
